Mythos:
It was long ago that the old ways shattered. The powers of the Gods diminished, magic became myth, and a new world was born, a tame new world where Humans would rule unopposed. In the brief moments between the world as it was and the world that we know now, the art of Alchemy flourished, a mixture of magic and science that tried to make sense of the shifting reality. Though the study of Alchemy would yield many products, its ultimate pursuit was mastery over life and death. Not only did the Alchemists seek the Elixir of Life that could prolong life indefinitely, they sought to create new life, as the fallen Gods had done. This new life was called Homunculus, man made in man's own image. Modern science has superceded ancient Alchemy, but there are still those that dare to pursue its age old obsession. Where Alchemists used potions and secret chants, the mad scientists use wires and alloys, but their goal is the same: mastery over life and death, and the creation of new life, man in man's own image, the Homunculus.
Alt Names: Anthroparion, Takwin, Android, Simulacrum, Cyberian, Synthette, Golem, Alchemian, Machine Elf, Machina

Insight:
It was always my intention to add some sci-fi races to the Acheron Series line-up, but I try to present all of them in a way that fits a fantasy setting. Thus this android, robot character is dubbed Homunculus. I find it really interesting that the pursuit of artificial life dates at least back to the days of alchemy. Perhaps a century from now, our descendants will think that our ideas of creating artificial life through robotics are just as ridiculous as we think of creating a Homunculus through alchemy. I had a hard time remembering how to spell Homunculus, but eventually I memorized that there's one "O" up top and all "U" the rest of the way, and then the consonants come naturally.
