Mythos:
They say that the Lizardian race was born far away and long ago, under a star in the constellation of the dragon. They conquered their own world, and then set out to conquer others, including our own. But though the Lizardians are strong, they are also old and wise, so instead of bothering with military bloodshed, they seek to destroy the humans from within. Through their ancient knowledge they shapeshift into human form and create lizard-human hybrids, and these hybrids become wealthy businessmen, powerful politians, even royal families. Through their loyal hybrids and disguises, the Lizardians control the human world, without the humans even knowing it. But every once in a while, a Lizardian slips up and loses its camoflage for a split second, or allows its cruel reptilian behavior betray its cold-blooded heart...
Alt Names: Lizard Folk, Lizardman/Lizardmaid, Lizardoid, Draconian, Reptilian, Saurian, Komodo, Slitherine, Slithzerikai, Lacerta, Zootoca, Agama, Varanus, Squamate, Iguanian, Teius, Gekkon, Pogona

Insight:
The development of this character has been a rocky road. Because I like animals and anthros, I love fantasy lizard people, and I wanted to make one for the Acheron Series. But I was originally hesitant, since there would be more fantastic creatures like dragons and unicorns and a simple lizard seemed out of place. Ultimately, I made a test lizardian to see what it would look like, and once it was done, it was done, so I figured I might as well sell it. The stripey coloration was pretty work intensive, picking lizard palettes went through several redos, so in the end, this was one of the more time consuming builds. And when I finally get ready to ship and start researching for the mythos blurb, it turns out there just aren't any mythological lizard people. The fantasy lizardian trope started with RE Howard for Conan the Barbarian and Gygax continued it in Dungeons & Dragons. I wanted a genuine mythology to base them on, so instead of ancient legends, the Lizardian's mythos blurb is based on the modern belief of shape shifting alien illuminati lizardmen controlling the world from the shadows. Whatever you may think of their credibility, it's a fantastic story and it goes to show that for all our advanced knowledge, modern society cannot cure us of our need to believe in the supernatural. Since some believers ascribe the alien lizardmen with psychic powers, I figure that would give either fantasy or sci-fi lizardmen an extra edge to stand up against all the other Acheron Series mythical creature people.
