Mythos:
Long ago, before The Gods crafted humankind in their own image, the primeval forces of Nature gave birth to life unlike anything in our own world, ancient titans that surpass the wildest living beasts in size and ferocity. In this age before time, that primordial firmament gave birth to the race of Raptors. Unaided by The Gods, as we were, the Raptors adapted to their savage world by displaying a savagery all their own. Half bird and half reptile, Nature bestowed the Raptors with the brains and beauty of the former, and the cold blooded brutality of the latter. When The Gods were born, they buried that prehistoric world under rock and dust, for they wanted a safer world in which to raise their offspring, humankind, and they knew that Nature's unchecked brutality would be to barbaric to allow any human to thrive. Nevertheless, some say that there are places on Earth that were untouched by Heaven's hands, deep underground or in the wildest of wilderness, where the primordial savagery of bygone eras still reigns, and in these dark corners of reality the Raptors still remain.

Insight:
Lizardmen are common to modern fantasy settings, and I've often thought I could improve upon the trope. One of my lizardmen variations is a deinonychus type creature. As their mythos blurb suggests, I think people find the idea of intelligent dinosaurs to be especially terrifying. We think of human beings as weak, soft creatures, balanced out by superior minds. But what if there was a creature that had it all? Strength, speed, intelligence, disembowelling claws, adorable feathers, everything. And then despite being hypothetically superior to us in every way, poof! One little act of nature and they're gone, wiped off the face of the Earth in an instant. At the same time, I think we imagine that if we were in the same situation, we'd think of some way to avert that disaster, like leaving the planet in space ship or digging bunkers deep underground or uploading our consciousnesses to a super computer or something. So if the dinosaur people were really superior to us, wouldn't they have thought of something like that too? Did it work? Are they still out there? Fun stuff to think about.
If you're into dinosaur stuff, you might know that the dinosaur extinction asteroid event left a scar throughout the Earth's crust, the "K-T Boundary", a layer of iridium space dust deposited everywhere across the earth at a specific point in time. Iridium is rare on Earth but plentiful in asteroids and is the densest natural element, along with its sister Osmium. I like to imagine that the Dino-Killer was not a random asteroid, but a Rod from God style sci-fi super weapon, created by warring dino-people nations or alien invaders (like the Outsiders, Lizardians or Cherufe). Many of the dino-people died from the impact or immediate fallout. Most of the survivors escaped in cryogenic cargo ships, frozen for generations, perhaps millions of years, until they could reach safe harbors beyond the reach of their enemies. But some remained on Earth, surviving for generations in underground bunkers until they forgot their ancient glory, until they had almost regressed back to savage beasts. Almost.
